Visiting this website may be the first time you've heard the name HanaCell but our parent company Mobell communications, has been supplying cell phones since 1989, which is longer than some of the big US domestic carriers! Mobell Communications Ltd. based in the UK and we have branches in New York and Tokyo. The Mobell group has sold more than 100,000 phone connections in the USA and in Japan.
But what about HanaCell...?
HanaCell was launched 2 years ago in order to supply cell phone services to Japanese people residing in the USA. We have tripled in subscribers in one year! And we have received an increasing number of enquiries from non-Japanese speakers about HanaCell's services. Sorry it has taken us 2 years to launch our service in English!

HanaCell began from a phone conversion Kie (HanaCell's manager) had with a friend in San Francisco.
"I pay so much per month for all these inclusive minutes and add-on services which I never use up within the month! What a waste of money!"
Kie's friend continued to complain that she traveled back and forth between Japan and the USA and did not want to pay so much per month while she was out of the country. When Kie suggested that she changed phone providers, her friend explained how she didn't want to change suppliers to be tied down to another 24 months contract. Her only option was to opt for a prepaid phone which she found terribly inconvenient...
This is when Kie realised that there might be a business opportunity. Why shouldn't there be a cell phone plan with no contract period?!
And so this was the beginning of a simple, low-cost, contract-free cell phone service, HanaCell. HanaCell continues to expand through word-of-month amongst the Japanese community in the USA. It was not long after launch that non-Japanese speakers were enquiring about the service. We are pleased to finally offer our services to English speakers!
Do you know what "HanaCell" means?
"Hanasu" is the verb to talk. "Hanaseru" means "is able to talk".
HanaCell's fun-loving project manager realised that "seru" sounds similar to "cell".
